Meribel Non-Skiing Activities

While Meribel is renowned for its amazing skiing and access to the extensive Three Valleys, Meribel has plenty to offer off-hill too. With a wide range of options and facilities right here on our door step there's plenty of non-skiing activities to keep all ages entertained.  So whether you've a non-skier in your party, you're wondering what options are available for poor weather days, or you're looking for something to occupy the kids, Meribel is a great option for your next winter holiday. Here are just a few of our favourite non-skiing activities in Meribel.

Walking & Snowshoeing

Meribel has an abundance of walking trails all of which are well signposted and easy to navigate. The Altiport area has groomed forest trails near to the ski runs that make particularly enjoyable walking. The Altiport area is easily accessed by one of the free resort buses from Meribel centre.

Lac du Tueda in the Vanoise National Park is a lovely walk, with a cosy refuge along the way to enjoy a tasty lunch. You can reach the start of the walk on the free bus from Meribel or Les Allues.

There are also a lot of walking trails from Les Allues village (and all the neighbouring villages) although these are less often maintained they are well trodden by walkers and we can lend you maps and give you some ideas of routes to take.

Snow shoes have a larger surface area and fit to your walking boots and give you the ability to venture further afield. They are useful in deeper snow and can be hired locally.

Tobogganing

Meribel has 2 toboggan runs to explore. Mission Black Forest is a 3km sledge run, descending 470m with 28 corners. Choose your sledge and helmet and become one of the adventurers who can save the Arbin Forest tribe! Open every afternoon.

Himalaya by night is a beautiful 2km sledging run, open in the evenings and flood lit. Fun for all the family guaranteed! Open every Thursday of the winter season and on Mondays during French school holidays.

Massage and Physiotherapy

There is something for everyone, small babies pool with slide, large swimming pool with play area for kids, swimming lanes for those wanting to blast out some laps, and a long water slide to get you whooping! The spa area boasts a steam room, sauna, hammam, solarium and massage rooms.

The thermal spa in Brides Les Bains is a lovely way to spend the day. You can take the scenic Olympic gondola down to the village of Brides Les Bains, and enjoy a whole day of relaxing. The spa has a variety of pools, steam rooms, saunas, massages and beauty treatments available.

Meribel's cinema is located in the auditorium next to the Tourist Office. It shows a programme of films in the afternoons and evenings in English as well as French.

Shopping

Meribel has some lovely shops including numerous shops selling ski and snowboarding clothing and equipment, an inviting bakery/chocolatier, several gift shops, a cheese cooperative and other shops selling local produce. There is also a twice-weekly market in Meribel centre on a Tuesday and Friday where you can pick up local specialities.

Paragliding & Sight-Seeing Flights

Paragliding is a fantastic way to view the mountains from another perspective. Take a tandem flight with a qualified instructor and ski of the side of the mountain into the beautiful blue sky. You will take off from Saulire or Col de la Loze, and land near the Chaudanne ready to continue your day’s skiing.

Meribel has its own Altiport (a runway on the snow) from which you can take a sight-seeing flight around the valleys. You can choose a 20 minute trip around the Three Valleys or a 30 minute trip a bit further afield.
