The Best Time to Ski and Snowboard in the 3 Valleys

When it comes to your winter ski holiday, when is the best time to visit the 3 Valleys? Everyday in the mountains is beautiful, but there are definitely different characteristics throughout the season and it is important to pick a time that suits you and your group's needs. If you only have one week to ski this winter we want you to pick the best possible week for your holiday.

Whether you are looking for sparkling festive celebrations, knee deep powder days, hot sunny relaxing mountains lunches, or family friendly resort events, let us help you pick the best month for you to enjoy.

December

It is hard to resist the festive buzz of the mountains at Christmas and New Year. Great for families, why not whisk the children away to visit Santa in the snow. Meribel and Courchevel have a great programme of Christmas celebrations including Santa’s horse drawn tour of the village, Christmas carols in the square with mulled wine, and a magical parade of illuminated puppets.

In the chalet you will enjoy the full festive celebrations….Bucks fizz breakfast, mulled wine and mince pies, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, and no need to cook a thing! Our chalet hosts will ensue you enjoy skiing on Christmas day while they worry abut the turkey in the oven.

New Year celebrations are just as wonderful in the Alps. Enjoy a celebration dinner in the chalet before heading out into Meribel or La Tania to the street parties, or one of the fantastic New Years Eves parties in the local bars and restaurants.

Christmas and New Year can be busy. Luckily the Three Valleys is the largest ski area in the Word so there is plenty of room for everyone!

January

After the hectic festive period, January offers quiet pistes, great snow and a more relaxed holiday. The resorts are at their quietest in January, which means no lift queues, less crowded pistes, and less busy restaurants.

The snow in January is generally very good, with cold temperatures maintaining the great snow quality. It can be cold, but that’s a great excuse to treat yourself to some new cosy ski socks!

A great time of year for beginners as the pistes are much less crowded and it is easier to find availability with the ski schools.

With cheaper flights and chalet prices in January it is a fabulous time for a good value ski holiday.

February

The most popular time of year for families because of school holidays. The weather is a bit warmer than Christmas and New year, and there are lots of events for all the family. Chalets and ski schools book up quickly in February, so you need to be quick to secure your spot.

Although February is the busiest time of the season, it is not too much of a problem in the Three Valleys, where we are lucky enough to have over 600km of pistes! February is great if you are looking for a lively ski holiday, with lots of events!

March & April

As in January, the pistes are a little quieter in March, and throw in the warmer weather and longer days, March is a great option.

The warmer weather means long sunny lunches on the outdoor terraces, enjoying the mountain views. Apres bars have live music outside for you to enjoy after a hard days skiing, and the lifts open later giving you extra precious time on the slopes.

If you love softer snow, then this is the time of year for you. Another good time for beginners as the snow is softer when you take the inevitable tumble!

Easter holidays for families are great, with warmer weather, great for kids and adults alike!

The end of the season sees lots of fun events, think fancy dress, outdoor music and charity events.
